Look for gmail. Usually you will see a pretty outdated timestamp for the last sync. Now deactivate sync for gmail and activate it again. I hate labels. I really like Gmail for its features, spam detection, compatibility, and other small features. I really do not like labels. I wish you could organize by folders and create rules that makes certain senders to the folder/label but not in the inbox.
